As a small nonprofit with limited resources, we’re tied to our mission: rescuing the abandoned and abused working dogs that otherwise would never even see a home or shelter. That said, we do our best to provide education and opportunity for owners currently looking to manage or re-home their Pyrenees/Akbash.
Please check out our owner rehoming page for more adoptable dogs!

ABOUT lady
Lady here is only a year old. She is one of Indie’s three babies and hasn’t truly found her person. She unfortunately been returned to us. She’s an incredibly independent, people affectionate young dog. She will sleep in bed with you all night, wrestle with you, hike with you, and even enjoys fetch once in a while. She is energetic and charming and has a soul of gold.
During her time adopted, they learned quickly that Lady does not like other female dogs. And more importantly, it’s hard for her in a yard without see through fencing. Wood planks or vinyl are too hindering to her sense of surroundings and security. While many of our dogs end up doing extremely well in these environments, many have behavioral issues because they simply can’t see what’s on the other side. In the home, around people of all types, she is remarkable, responsible, and calm.
We are in desperate need of a loving and patient home for young Lady here as we have no housed section for her. She will need a home with 6 foot wired fencing; ours on rescue is 6ft wood and no climb wire and with that she displays absolutely no fence line aggression and is at peace knowing she can see!
Please reach out if you think you have the appropriate and loving home she so wants and needs 💗
Meet the big five
The “Big Five” were rescued from an animal hoarding property, they were the last puppies pulled from over 40 various guardian breeds. On this property since birth, they experienced physical, mental, and emotional abuse. They had never known a healthy relationship to humans or other dogs and as such, they are extremely guarded and fearful when meeting new humans and new environments.
Since arriving at Unega, they have been seen by our behaviorist, with each dog coming out with distinct and powerful personalities. They are not a dog to take lightly and will only be going to homes prepared to handle their uniqueness and instincts.
They are roughly 8 Months old and are mix of Great Pyrenees, Maremma, Akbash, and small amount of Saint Bernard as well.
We would love to discuss each with you and if their abilities and behaviors may be the right match for you!
-
The “Beta”
Apollo is a very sweet and tender man. He is the largest of his siblings. He is incredibly intelligent and observant. He is often uncertain in new situations; but will do well with confident training and guidance. Apollo also struggles with seperation anxiety and will do well with a confident dog to soothe him. He is someone that his siblings look to for cues on being social; he will be the one to set a tone but not always understand the urgency or lack there of in specific situations.
-
“The Scout”
As a very keen observer, Artemis is steadfast and soft. She is always accesses situations intensely, and looks to her siblings to help interpret. She is quiet and gaining confidence, her boldness shines when the group does well. She has strong interest and motivation, and is only gaining more as the days go by.
-
The “Alpha”
Clearly the Alpha, he is strong-willed and is passionate about his siblings. With additional confidence, he will more thoroughly take on the Alpha roll. As a more reactive fellow, he often shifts the tone to fearful for the group (along with Raven), and they follow in suit. He is not an outwardly aggressive dog, yet he does display behaviors that test boundaries and assertiveness when a threat is perceived. He is incredibly sharp, watchful, and he will take more time to gain trust than others.
-
The “Delta”
Calliope is currently the most ready to head home. She is food motivated and overall a curious, calm guardian. She is especially alert at dawn and dusk as a keen guardian dog. She responds well to gentle interactions and will thrive with a confident guide to aid in her transition to her home.
-
The “Sentinel” or Alpha
Raven is the most standoffish and fearful, with hesitation toward new situations. She is an excellent surveyor and protective of her personal boundaries. While gaining confidence, she is of high curiosity and eventually wins trust through time and space. She is guarded with an instinct and fear to bark upon meeting. The group, such as with Atlas, watch and listen for her tone. She will need a home that is just as watchful as she; careful to note responses, and one that can navigate patience over excitement.

ABOUT Amber and her pups
Found abandoned on the side of the road outside Burley, Idaho; this mama and her pups were instantly friendly and open. Amber is roughly two years old and this definitely not her first litter. As she was starving when rescued, her milk ducts were drying up. Luckily with time and weight gain, the babies could start nursing more from her and they are all thriving!
The babies will be ready to go soon, and they range from white as a pyrenees to darker as a Anatolian shepherd.
With this all female crew, we are looking for homes for all of them!
Please reach out, they are ready for love and care.

ABOUT indie & TOBIN
FIRST, Indie:
Indie, Indie, Indie-It had been quite the journey of this young guardian. Rescued at 10 Months, abandoned, wandering dehydrated and underfed. She soon opened up and made friends quickly here at Unega-at this point her only aggression was during feeding; so often as we do, we simply fed her separate. And then she was adopted! She headed off to the midwest and then she gave birth within 48 hours! 3 Surprise pups arrived and the adopters were adamant they had spots for each puppy and all was well has they grew toward 8 weeks, but suddenly they demanded we take all FOUR dogs back. No prior issues, and then boom all were back at Unega. And they all came back almost in a feral state-the adopters were locking them away, not training, not taking proper care, and not communicating with us the true details.
Indie waited as each of her kids were adopted and fostered, and then she was too…again! Yet, within three weeks the family could not and did not want to take the time for what Indie needs; so yet again she was let down and our hearts broke.
Indie is cuddly, a love bug, and an incredibly smart guardian. Indie is also reactive and her triggers vary. She will pull and bark on a leash when certain dogs pass, she will bark at specific cars, and she will bark through the windows at all the things her instincts are telling her to do so. She especially loves chasing birds out of her yards and surveying her lands. Indie LOVES to go on hikes and Indie will smother you in sniffs, her body weight, and just an abundance of love she never got herself as a pup.
So for a while, we never thought Indie could be with another dog as her reactivity is often an unknown, but then came sweet, energetic TOBIN.
Tobin, who was found abandoned and wandering a nearby ghost town, was on the verge of complete dehydration and malnourishment as his blood levels and body mass were not thriving. Once arriving at Unega, he soon realized he could be himself; And that is a happy, energetic, wild, little Great Pyrenees/Siberian Husky young man. He and Indie were slowly introduced, and then with a BANG, they took off wrestling, running circles, and we hadn’t seen Indie be so happy for such a long time: she missed a partner. She missed companionship. And sometimes it all comes down to patience and timing, and of course, a stud like Tobin didn’t hurt on her eyes either.
TOGETHER, they are adventurers, bird catchers, and huge wrestle mania fans. They both bask in the sun and their independence. They are stunning, silly, and excellent guardians. We would love to talk with you about these two more! Reach out, they have both been waiting so long for the right person to love them as they are, not what others expect of them.

ABOUT WINNIE
Hi! I’m Winnie! I’m a 6 year old spayed female Great Pyrenees, and I’m looking for my furever home. I have been doing very well with my foster family and my foster kiddo too! I love long naps, being brushed, watching movies, and of course eating snacks! I would do best in a home that is prepared to have me close by as I am a guardian breed and always want to be with my family. I will need to be an only dog, but I do get along with livestock. I do have a common condition known as hypothyroidism which is easily managed with medication from my friends at the vet. I’m a very sweet and affectionate girl who is very excited to spend forever by your side!

MILLIE & RANGER
QUICK FACTS
AGE: 2-3 YEARS
GENDER: FEMALE & MALE BONDED PAIR
BREED: GREAT PYRENEES/AKBASH
GOOD WITH KIDS: YES
HOBBIES: WRESTLING, BIRD WATCHING, STICK COLLECTION, TUG OF WAR
ABOUT MILLIE & RANGER
Oh Millie and Ranger! Such a bonded and resilient pair. We have had them at the rescue for over 5 months and they are SO ready to have a loving and patient home. They are both around two years old, and have grown with great strides since arriving here.
Millie is shy, a goof with the softest belly, and when she shows you love; boy oh boy is she so warmhearted and tender. She was tossed from a van, and we were able to get her to us. Timid at first, we watch her, as she protects Ranger and their section; flushing birds and securing their area. She runs with toys and has Ranger chase her, the mud splashing her face. And if she gets scared, she lays beside Ranger: safe, secure, loved by more than anything she has known.
Now Mr. Ranger…he is total love bug. After getting word of a working dog with a twisted foot, we stepped into action and got him to the rescue safely. As a pup, he was most likely injured and the bones fused; now as a strong two-year old, he is not phased by his injury. He grew up with it and does anything and everything he wants. He jumps in the air like no other, flips toys to no end, and always…ALWAYS appreciates a dedicated belly rub and leg massage.
Together, they are the most amazing duo. They go to each other for comfort, warmth, guidance. They play together all day, no weather can keep them back. And when they sleep, it is often cheek to cheek; as ONE. They are their own protectors. They are whole after lives of unknown abuse, conditions, and never knowing love.
If Millie & Ranger speak to you, please reach out. They are ready for their home. They really are.
HOPE & DAKOTA
QUICK FACTS
AGE: 2-3 YEARS
GENDER: FEMALE & MALE BONDED PAIR
SPAY/NEUTEURED: YES
BREED: GREAT PYRENEES/AKBASH
GOOD WITH KIDS: YES
HOBBIES: CHASING BIRDS, FLIPPING TOYS, AND CATCHING MICE
ABOUT HOPE & DAKOTA
Hope and Dakota came to us from two separate situations. Roughly 2-3 year old Hope was surrendered by a rancher in Utah after a couple years of harsh conditions and an unknown amount of litters. We were able to get her to Unega, and around the same time we moved Mr. Dakota into the same section with her.
Dakota came from the Buhl farm with Lalaei and Cal. Dakota is around a year and a half old and was the first of his group to allow us to pet him. He has really grown since arriving here at Unega, and with Hope they are truly a remarkable pair.
Hope and Dakota have made incredible strides together over the past couple months. They run and play together. Shred toys and love treats. Dakota is a very silly boy and isn’t so much into his guardian behaviors as Hope is. He loves a good pet in time, and has a very calm, curious demeanor about him. Hope is slower to be open to touch, and we are working with them both daily to socialize them to what it means to be loved and cared for properly.
These two have bonded deeply and we would love for them to stay together!
We would love to hear from you if you believe this pair would be a great fit in your life.
lalaei & Cal
QUICK FACTS
AGE: LALAEI 5/6 YEARS CAL 3 YEARS
GENDER: FEMALE & MALE BONDED PAIR
BREED: GREAT PYRENEES/AKBASH
GOOD WITH KIDS: YES
HOBBIES: SNUGGLING, RUNNING, COZY NAPS, AND WRESTLING
ABOUT LALAEI & CAL
Lalaei and Cal have been on quite the journey together since rescuing them from Buhl. Lalaei, 5-6 years old, was pregnant when we trapped her. And we believe Cal, 1.5-2 years old, to be hers from a previous litter. As we got her and Cal safely back to Unega, they soon escaped and were gone for over 10 days. Nicole was able to trap them and we got them safely back.
These two are quite the pair and have come a long way since leaving their traumatic and horrific lives. Lalaei carried to term, nursed them well, and we have now adopted out her five pups! She is very sweet, calm, and protective- she will hover over Cal-and she love LOVES treats.
Cal was very slow to open up, he kept to himself and was unsure what treats and attention were. He was cautious, and then curious, and now while he still keeps his distance, we have watched him blossom. He rolls on the grass and throws his toys around. He now loves treats and gets real up close when you have some. He is coming closer to more frequent touch each time we visit him.
We are earning both Lalaei and Cal’s trust every day. Lalaei loves being rubbed now. As long as you approach her slowly she welcomes touch and head scratches. Cal will let you do short quick rubs. It’s great to see the confidence.
Please let us know if these two are of interest.
